What are Tramadol Drops?

Tramadol drops are an oral solution of the opioid analgesic tramadol. The specific reference is Spanish Tramadol Krka 100 mg/ml oral drops, solution, indicated for moderate to severe pain. Drops and tablets share the oral route but differ in dosage form and potentially dosing schedule.

How do Tramadol Drops work?

Tramadol and its active metabolite act at opioid receptors. Inhibition of noradrenaline reuptake and increased serotonin release also contribute to analgesia. CYP2D6 and CYP3A4 take part in metabolism; CYP2D6 variation affects the opioid response. These mechanisms do not establish a general recommendation for neuropathic pain or superiority over another analgesic.

The solution is absorbed through the digestive tract. Do not assume faster relief than every tablet or absence of opioid risks.

Who are Tramadol Drops for?

This article covers adult use only and does not change platform access criteria. The label also contains specific paediatric schedules; they are not included here and must not be inferred from adult doses.

A doctor may consider the solution for swallowing difficulties or individual dose adjustment, including in older people. A feeding tube requires a pharmacist compatibility check. Uncontrolled epilepsy contraindicates use; seizure history and breathing problems need particular caution.

Dosage

Values only for Tramadol Krka 100 mg/ml and its devices. A dropper and pump are not equivalent.

Measure or group Amount or dose Interval or limit
Concentration 100 mg/ml Check the product
One drop from the dropper 2.5 mg/drop Not equivalent to a pump actuation
One pump actuation 12.5 mg/actuation Equivalent to 5 drops of this product
Adults 50–100 mg (20–40 drops from the dropper) Every 4–6 hours; usual limit 400 mg/day
People over 75 years Individualised Longer intervals may be needed
Renal or hepatic impairment Individualised Longer intervals may be needed

Use only the product’s device and verify concentration. Do not use household spoons or estimate by eye. Take orally with a little liquid; do not inject. Do not adjust the dose yourself. Use the lowest effective dose for the shortest duration, with review if continued. Keep out of children’s reach.

Side effects

Very common side effects (may affect more than 1 in 10 people)

  • Nausea and dizziness.

Common side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10 people)

  • Headache, drowsiness, constipation, vomiting, dry mouth and sweating.

Serious risks

Seizures, respiratory depression, dependence and withdrawal can occur. Serotonin syndrome can occur with tramadol alone or with serotonergic medicines; agitation, confusion, fever and muscle rigidity need immediate assessment. Slow breathing or difficulty waking is an emergency. Hypoglycaemia has been reported. Do not abruptly stop regular use without an agreed medical taper. This list is not exhaustive.

The solution adds a measurement-error risk: confusing a pump actuation with a drop can cause overdose.

Online assessment for Tramadol Drops

Prescrivia is a technology intermediary connecting patients with independent doctors and licensed pharmacies. It does not provide medical services, prescribe, employ doctors, sell or dispense medicines.

  1. Health assessment: Provide your symptoms, medical history and all current medicines for independent clinical assessment.
  2. Doctor review: An independent doctor decides whether any treatment is appropriate. Prescrivia does not guarantee that a prescription will be issued.
  3. Pharmacy responsibility: Any lawful dispensing is the responsibility of a licensed pharmacy, subject to the applicable prescription and national rules. This article does not establish product availability or a right to delivery.

In Spain, distance sale of prescription medicines is prohibited under Article 3.5 of Royal Legislative Decree 1/2015. An online assessment does not remove this restriction. Access depends on the specific product and jurisdiction.

Important safety information

Do not take tramadol with allergy to its components, inadequately controlled epilepsy, acute intoxication with alcohol, hypnotics, opioids or psychotropic medicines, or with MAO inhibitors or within 14 days of stopping them. It must not be used to treat opioid withdrawal.

Tell your doctor about any seizure history, breathing problems, sleep apnoea, liver or kidney disease, head injury, raised intracranial pressure, depression, dependence history, adrenal insufficiency, hypothyroidism or urinary problems. Controlled epilepsy still requires particular caution. CYP2D6 ultra-rapid metabolism can cause opioid toxicity; this is distinct from serotonin syndrome. Do not use during pregnancy. Do not take while breastfeeding without agreeing an appropriate alternative with the doctor; breastfeeding may need to be interrupted during treatment. After a single dose, interruption is generally unnecessary: seek advice on how to proceed without stopping regular treatment yourself.

Interactions: Serotonergic antidepressants, including SSRIs and SNRIs, require assessment; MAO inhibitors are contraindicated. Antiepileptics such as carbamazepine, CYP2D6/CYP3A4 modifiers and anticoagulants such as warfarin can interact. Avoid alcohol. Combining benzodiazepines or other CNS depressants can cause respiratory depression, coma or death and requires specific medical assessment. Do not drive with dizziness or drowsiness.

Frequently asked questions

What are tramadol drops?
An oral tramadol solution. This article references Tramadol Krka 100 mg/ml. It shares an active ingredient with other presentations, but concentration and device must always be checked.
Are they the same as tablets?
They share the active ingredient and oral route; the dosage form changes, not the administration route. Do not independently interchange with prolonged-release tablets. Faster onset is not guaranteed.
Can I request an online assessment?
Prescrivia connects patients with independent doctors. Assessment does not guarantee a prescription or lawful dispensing or delivery in your country.
How is the dose measured?
For Tramadol Krka 100 mg/ml, one drop from the dropper supplies 2.5 mg; one pump actuation supplies 12.5 mg. An actuation is not a drop. Check the pack and use its device; do not extrapolate to another product.
When may a liquid be useful?
A doctor may consider it for swallowing difficulties or dose adjustment. Feeding-tube use requires a pharmacist compatibility check; being liquid does not establish suitability for every tube.
